Occasionally we make cutting boards that we call "Frankenboards".
Frankenboard: When making butcher block, the first step is to glue up a large panel. We then cross-cut strips from that panel, turning them on end in sequence and gluing those together to form the final butcher block. We often have extra strips from any given panel. When we have a butcher block formed from strips from more than a single panel, that’s a “Frankenboard.” Nothing wrong with it, it’s just that the look of the grain pattern from one row to the next doesn’t necessarily flow seamlessly.
As we know from Wisdom Behind the Wood, almost all Maple has mineral streaks. It is the nature of Maple. We try to minimize them when we can, but they don't affect quality, form or function. This one has just a couple of blemishes.
Feet will NOT be installed, but if you purchase them, we will install them for you.
You can add grooves and/or engraving for a small fee.
Maple cutting boards need a lot of oil, so please don't forget to add a care kit! All cutting boards need to be oiled to full saturation, but especially maple!

After years of re-purchasing plastic boards that would scratch up and cheap wooden boards from discount stores which would warp and crack, we decided to invest in a high quality cutting board that would last (hopefully) our lifetime! I admit there is a bit of a learning curve with the maintenance, but so far, the board has served us well and I’m looking forward to how it continues to gain character over time.
