Known for its lasting strength and durability, maple has long been the traditional wood used for cutting boards and butcher's blocks. We use sustainably harvested (certified FSC) premium-grade maple for these beautiful blonde colored boards.
Prior to shipping, each butcher block is sanded smooth, given a soak in our pharmacy grade mineral oil tank for 30+ minutes, allowed to dry overnight, and then buffed with Boardsmith Board Butter.
Note: maple lumber prices have risen steadily for the last year and a half, increasing 70% during that time. According to our sawmill, prices are expected to continue rising throughout 2022 due to supply shortages and higher transportation costs. We will be making periodic pricing adjustments as our costs increase.
Built to be beautiful. Built to last.
average weights of butcher block (after oiling) are:
12 X 18, 9-10 lbs
16 X 22, 18-19 lbs
18 X 24, 23-24 lbs
Our standard butcher blocks are 2" thick. Feet add an additional 7/8" and are highly recommended unless the user is under 5'3" (160cm) in height.

Though producing such a fine board as this is by no means easy— with the care and precision necessary at the hands of a master craftsman— the result is, quite simply, simply wonderful. The surface’s well-oiled smoothness, the finally-smoothed edges, the care taken in the manufacture of the feet, juice groove & hand frips— what can I say? Simply beautiful.
Over the moon about these boards:) They really elevated the utility and look of our compact kitchen space...thanks, Boardsmith!
Wife loved it
I bought my Board for my new house and just had my first party. As the center piece of my countertop, I got so many comments on how beautiful the Board is. Beyond just its looks though and more importantly to me as avid cook is how much it has improved my quality of life in the kitchen. Prep work which might have required multiple boards now all fit comfortably on one surface. The Board raises my working surface by a few inches, is hefty enough to feel super steady, and the wood feels dreamy to cut on; all of which combine to make knifework a pleasure rather than a chore. Couldn't be happier.
I purchased a larger board and a small companion board.I love these boards! I did some research into cutting boards and learned that the larger block arranged in a brick fashion is the best way to go.
Boardsmith was ranked at the top for quality boards and I can see why.
The boards are beautiful. They are so sturdy and solid. They feel so good under the knife as I am cutting through vegetables. I never ever imagined a cutting board presenting this experience but these do. I oiled the boards and waxed again before using them as recommended but at the same time the instructions say they are ready to use.
I also feel that it is important to be supporting a family owned small business.
In my opinion they are well worth the money.
Thank you Boardsmith!!!
