Known for its lasting strength and durability, maple has long been the traditional wood used for cutting boards and butcher's blocks. We use sustainably harvested (certified FSC) premium-grade maple for these beautiful blonde colored end grain cutting boards.

Prior to shipping, each maple end grain butcher block is sanded smooth, given a soak in our pharmacy grade mineral oil tank for 30+ minutes, allowed to dry overnight, and then buffed with Cutting Board Butter.

Carolina Cut Maple No feet and Finger Grooves Review

I’m transitioning from a long grain, teak, 1.5 in thick, 15x20 board that I’ve enjoyed for over 15 years. The criticism of teak is that it’s hard on knives because it contains silica. Think sand. I’ve only owned teak so I’m curios to learn if I need to sharpen less using maple. What I like about teak is its very low maintenance—oil a couple of times a year; it can be also be made thinner without much concern for warping, hence it’s much lighter.
I’ve owned the Carolina maple board for two weeks and is very well made. It came sooner than expected and well oiled, as advertised. Be aware this board is extremely heavy and relatively difficult to maneuver, particularly when washing and storing. When freshly oiled it’s even more challenging to move. My primary criticism is the finger grooves are not deep enough to make picking it up easier. My much lighter teak board had much deeper finger grooves that I’ll miss. I’d prefer 1.5 inch thickness to reduce the weight but the owner said 2 inches reduces the probability of warping.
This board will require a lot of oiling so go to Amazon and get a large quantity to reduce the cost per ounce. Same with board butter.
Definitely opt for the Carolina cut over the smaller option if you have the counter, storage and sink space. Owner promptly answered questions which was appreciated.

Awesome Board

Great quality and purchase. A beautiful, well-crafted board. Shipped faster than expected and came with great care information. I will buy my next board from The Boardsmith, too!

Extemely well made. A beautiful addition to any kitchen!

Lovely but heavy

This is a quality cutting board that will undoubtedly last years. My only negative is that it is quite heavy. I understand why it is so substantial%2C but with its heft come certain limitations. I certainly won’t be holding the board with one hand over a pot while scraping the chopped food into it%2C for example. Washing it can also be cumbersome. And this is just the 12x18 size for reference. Just something to keep in mind.

Rubber feet

For extra stability & air circulation

Perimeter Juice Groove

To catch messy liquids (on the top side only)

Finger Grooves

For easy lifting

"A superb craftsman"

Thank you, John, your passion is evident in your work. I will enjoy this cutting board for many years." - Michele K.
