My walnut "Carolina Cut" cutting board is a beautiful work of art. It so nice in fact, it took me two weeks to build-up enough courage to actually cut something on it!
The cutting board was very well packaged and arrived at my home in perfect condition. I am very pleased with the how the light and dark wood grains were carefully arranged in a beautiful pattern.
I included finger grooves which makes it much easier to grip the board. Weighing-in at almost 20lbs, you don't want to lose your grip on this bad boy! I also opted to include a juice groove on the bottom of the board which keeps the top surface smooth and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I can easily flip the board over when it comes time to carve larger cuts of meat like roasts and briskets.
Feet come standard on this cutting board and I would strongly recommend keeping them. As noted in the product description, you need air to circulate around the board in order to keep it dry. The feet add a little extra height, but they also add a touch of elegance as it "hovers" on the counter top.
Don't forget the oil & board butter kit! The cutting board drinks oil like a fish during the first couple of weeks. The board butter adds an extra layer of protection that keeps the cutting board looking sharp. Skipping out on the oil will cause the wood to dry out and crack. I ordered a 2nd kit just to make sure I never run out.
I've wanted a wooden cutting board for very a long time and I knew it would be a lifetime investment. As a finishing-touch, I asked the good folks at Boardsmith to engrave my last name on the cutting board so it could be passed down to one of my lucky kids as a family heirloom. The "Old German" font turned out fantastic and I couldn't be happier with my cutting board and my overall experience!
