Crafted with sustainably harvested Black Walnut. These boards have a deep chocolate color highlighted with black streaks and some lighter-colored sapwood. Some boards are fairly consistent in color, and others have high contrast between lighter and darker woods.
Of the three hardwoods we use, walnut arguably has the highest 'Wow!' factor. In terms of durability, it has the perfect balance of scratch resistance and gentleness on knife edges.
While we can't guarantee any particular look, you are welcome to request a preference in the 'comments' section and we will accommodate if we have one available. Some customers prefer it more uniform and others like high contrast.
Walnut lumber prices almost doubled between 2020 and 2022. We expect small increases in lumber pricing to continue for the remainder of the year. We are doing our best not to adjust our pricing too much, but occasional small increases are likely.

I bought this for my (now) wife as a Christmas gift about 8 or so years ago and it still remains a beautiful centerpiece of our kitchen. Used nearly daily since the day we got it. Truly amazing quality; worth every penny.
I ordered the Walnut End Grain cutting board, with engraving, for my son as a wedding day gift. I made a request for rush turnaround when placing my order. I received an email from John, the owner, assuring me I would have the board in time for the big day. Three weeks before the wedding, I received another email directly from John letting me know it was finished and on its way. The board was stunning! Excellent quality! Perfect! I gave it to my son on his wedding day, and he was absolutely thrilled!
These cutting boards are beautifully designed and crafted. Every time I use it, I am struck by the attention to detail; the satiny smooth surface, the
gorgeous grain and contrast, the little feet that raise it above the counter.
The BOARDSMITH site also gives great maintenance guidance.
This cutting board exceeded all of my expectations. I ordered the end grain black walnut and love that it is 2” thick. It is sanded very smooth on front, back, and all 4 sides. I absolutely love it and have zero regret.
This board was even better than I expected. The texture when it arrives is like satin and the deep dark saturated walnut color is stunning! I had no idea it would be honed to such a fine finish and an incredibly impressed. One warning for short folks - I am 5'5" and got a 2" board with feet. There was a caution for people shorter than 5'3" in terms of getting feet, but I might up that a bit (or maybe my counters are just a little tall?). I probably should have gotten a slightly thinner board, but I do love the heft of the 2" board. I took the feet off and will add some silicone buns for traction on the bottom. But, the feet provided by Boardsmith are a lovely finishing touch and I wouldn't recommend against them as long as you are maybe 5'6" plus. I am planning to hang onto them and if my next apartment/home has lower counters will happily reinstall them. This is an heirloom-quality piece. I did a lot of comparison shopping before I purchased and am very happy I landed on Boardsmith.
