Walnut End Grain Cutting Board

Regular price $250.00
/

Feet are installed on your board to provide stability and air circulation. We strongly encourage this, and most of our customers agree.

Use

  • Your board will arrive already seasoned and ready for use. We use a pharmacy grade, food safe mineral oil, followed by beeswax, for water resistance and protection.
  • End Grain cutting boards are more scratch-resistant and easier on knives than other boards, but still avoid using serrated knives

Care

  • Hand-wash with hot, soapy water. Always dry thoroughly.
  • Never soak or submerge board in water, or place in the dishwasher.
  • To help maintain water repellency, apply our Board Butter (or a combination of heated mineral oil and beeswax) to the cutting surface periodically. First clean and sanitize the board, then apply paste with a soft cloth. Rub into the surface and wipe off any excess.

Freight Damages, Loss, or Theft

As of October, 2022, The Boardsmith is using allowing customers to purchase Route Shipping Insurance as a third party insurer on packages. In the event your shipment is lost, stolen (eg porch pirates), or damaged in transit, Route will replace your items. This insurance is entirely optional and The Boardsmith does not profit in any way from the service. If you elect NOT to get shipping insurance, and if your order is damaged, lost, or stolen while in transit, you are agreeing to assume liability for that loss or damage.

Historically, loss, theft, or damage occurs in approximately 1% of shipments. Incidents are normally far higher during the Christmas season than at other times of the year.

Crafted with sustainably harvested Black Walnut. These boards have a deep chocolate color highlighted with black streaks and some lighter-colored sapwood. Some boards are fairly consistent in color, and others have high contrast between lighter and darker woods.

Of the three hardwoods we use, walnut arguably has the highest 'Wow!' factor. In terms of durability, it has the perfect balance of scratch resistance and gentleness on knife edges.

While we can't guarantee any particular look, you are welcome to request a preference in the 'comments' section and we will accommodate if we have one available. Some customers prefer it more uniform and others like high contrast.

Walnut lumber prices almost doubled between 2020 and 2022. We expect small increases in lumber pricing to continue for the remainder of the year. We are doing our best not to adjust our pricing too much, but occasional small increases are likely.

The Perfect Board!

What a high quality product that is also a piece of art! Looks amazing in our new kitchen and has held great to all the chopping we’ve done on it. Just keep oiling and it looks brand new again. Highly recommend this company and product!

So far...excellent

The quality and attention to detail is apparent when the board arrived. It was nicely wrapped and seasoned with mineral oil. Nicely chamfered edges and impeccable build quality. No warping, burnouts, or micro gaps in the wood unlike the other "big brand". We've only been using it for a month, but I suspect it will hold up great given proper care. I recommend the "hidden" option of a juice groove on the underside of the board (where the feet are installed) Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Black walnut end-grain Carolina cut dream-board

This is the without a doubt my favorite kitchen tool. Carolina cut is the perfect large size. I got mine with feet and a perimeter groove on the bottom so that I didn't compromise surface area on the top. Most of our food prep doesn't require a juice groove but I wanted to have it for rare occasions. I was really on the fence about feet but I'm glad I got them, even in addition to the finger grooves on the side. The board itself is beautiful and an absolute marvel of craftmanship. The black walnut obscures any possible staining from beets or dark berries. We've been using the board for close to two months and it still has an intoxicating fresh wood smell to it. Nothing chemical-smelling, just natural wood and maybe a little hint of board butter. I used to carry my old cutting board to my range to transfer freshly chopped items directly to the pot or pan. It's not really possible to do that with this large board, so I've taken to bringing my pot or pan over to it. It's my only gripe with having such a beast of a board, but it's a small price to pay for having a lot of surface area to work with. I got the sidekick with it and it's been surprisingly useful. Sometimes I place it on top of the larger board, and sometimes I transfer chopped items to it and then from it to the pan. It's just great to have options. All-in-all, I just love this board. I'm (hopefully) halfway through my lifetime (or less so) at 40 years old, and I can imagine my kids using this board if I take good care of it, which I'm sure I will. Thanks Boardsmith team for helping to beautify my kitchen and make food prep more pleasurable than ever.

Can't believe it!

We always wondered about what a good cutting board would be like, now we really know! The impact is soft when you push your knife down, it's not a loud noise anymore and your hand does not feel the bounced back of the knife hitting the board. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a cheap cutting board again. Shared this with my sister and she's completely amazed.
