Cherry End Grain Cutting Board

Cherry is the softest of the woods we use and is reported by customers as the easiest on high quality knife edges. Our boards are crafted with sustainably harvested Cherry wood from Northwest Pennsylvania. These boards have a rich brown red color that will darken beautifully with age.

Cherry tends to have much more variation in the wood grain, with mineral spots and streaks, small pips, etc. No two are alike. Aesthetically, the wood works best in a traditional-style kitchen.

Prior to shipping, each butcher block is sanded smooth, given a soak in our pharmacy grade mineral oil tank for 30+ minutes, allowed to dry overnight, and then buffed with Boardsmith Board Butter.

Note: prices on cherry lumber have been relatively steady in 2021-2022, rising only 25% or so during that period. As a result, we don't expect major price increases on our cherry butcher blocks.

Built to be beautiful. Built to last.

Feet are installed on your board to provide stability and air circulation. We strongly encourage this, and most of our customers agree.

Use

  • Your board will arrive already seasoned and ready for use. We use a pharmacy grade, food safe mineral oil, followed by beeswax, for water resistance and protection.
  • End Grain cutting boards are more scratch-resistant and easier on knives than other boards, but still avoid using serrated knives

Care

  • Hand-wash with hot, soapy water. Always dry thoroughly.
  • Never soak or submerge board in water, or place in the dishwasher.
  • To help maintain water repellency, apply our Board Butter (or a combination of heated mineral oil and beeswax) to the cutting surface periodically. First clean and sanitize the board, then apply paste with a soft cloth. Rub into the surface and wipe off any excess.

*Photos are for demonstration only. Yours will look unique due to the variations in natural wood

The Reviews Are True. If Anything They Undersell It.

Wow.

Again: Wow.

I was in the market for some for-life investment-piece cutting boards, and these more than fit the bill. They are so good that this is the first time I've ever written a review for any product. The boards deserve the praise and Boardsmith earns the support.

My boards arrived today, and to reiterate all the other positive reviews they are incredible. They look beautiful and the craftsmanship is amazing. I'm not sure how to spell the noise I made when I opened the box and saw them, but it was a good one. To make it slightly weirder than it already is, I also can't stop running my hand over them - the boards are impossibly smooth and consistent; John is a magician. The pictures don't do the boards justice (the computer mouse is included for scale; no, I don't keep that in my sink.)

Finally, the customer service provided is also above and beyond. They came well-packed and faster than the advertised lead time. In the care note John includes his cell number and email for any follow-up or questions. Everything about the product and service demonstrates his devotion to his craft.

Buy some for yourself, and then quickly realize these would make for excellent wedding, housewarming, or related milestone gifts for those you're really close to.

5+++ stars.

It's perfect 😭

I was skeptical at spending this much on a cutting board, but as soon as I got it I knew it was the right decision. I've been using this for about a month now, and it's beautiful and does the job perfectly. I'm also very happy I went for the biggest size, and while I didn't think I wanted the peg legs, I'm glad they came recommended as they are certainly the right choice for a board of this size. I'll try to update this down the line once I've used this for longer, but I can't imagine any issues arising. It's pretty simple: this is clearly the greatest end-grain cutting board on the planet. I'm extra glad to support a small business making these by hand :)
