Occasionally we make cutting boards that we call "Frankenboards"

Frankenboard: When making butcher block, the first step is to glue up a large panel. We then cross-cut strips from that panel, turning them on end in sequence and gluing those together to form the final butcher block. We often have extra strips from any given panel. When we have a butcher block formed from strips from more than a single panel, that's a "Frankenboard". Nothing wrong with it, it's just that the look of the grain pattern from one row to the next doesn't necessarily flow seamlessly.

In this case we took leftover strips and made an Edge Grain Board.

We rarely make Edge Grain Boards with our left over strips, but they are just as pretty as our End Grain. An edge grain board is built with long strips of wood glued together laterally. An end grain block is comprised of lots of smaller blocks of wood glued vertically. You can learn more about the difference in this video if you are interested.

End Grain boards are easier on a knife's edge and don't show knife marks as prominently. Edge Grain (sometimes called Face Grain) boards are less expensive because they take less wood and less labor.

We recommend cutting on one side and using the other side as a display and charcuterie surface. These make great gifts!

This board is fairly small - about the same size as our Sidekicks, so it got a hefty discount.

Feet will NOT come standard on this board, but if you order a set we will be happy to install them for you.

You can also order finger grooves, a juice groove and/or engraving at checkout.
