This beautiful board needs a little discount because it has a few Wind Checks.
Wind Checks are tiny cracks in grain of the wood. They are characteristic because the checking is perfectly perpendicular to the annularly rays in the wood grain. Those checks exist at a microscopic level throughout most hard wood, but sometimes become visible—typically in colder, dryer months (normally December-February). As often as not, they will disappear, especially if the board gets a heavy coating of oil and board butter. However, we don't think these checks will disappear, but they will not affect the integrity of the board.
Walnut tends to be our favorite of the Big 3 (Maple, Cherry and Walnut) because of its ease on a knifes edge and how easy it is to maintain. Walnut perks right up with a little oil and love.
