Known for its lasting strength and durability, maple has long been the traditional wood used for cutting boards and butcher's blocks. We use sustainably harvested (certified FSC) premium-grade maple for these beautiful blonde colored end grain cutting boards.

Prior to shipping, each maple end grain butcher block is sanded smooth, given a soak in our pharmacy grade mineral oil tank for 30+ minutes, allowed to dry overnight, and then buffed with Cutting Board Butter.

Built to be beautiful. Built to last.

Average weights of each end grain butcher block/cutting board (after oiling) are:

12 X 18, 9-10 lbs
16 X 22, 18-19 lbs
18 X 24, 23-24 lbs

Our standard maple end grain cutting boards are 2" thick. Cutting board feet add an additional 3/4" and are highly recommended unless the user is under 5'3" (160cm) in height.

I thought I knew...

I knew I always wanted a hefty, good-sized, thick and professional cutting board/block. I knew they were the epitome of fine food crafting. Not just for their look, but all the logical reasons like an appropriate janka score to ensure good cutting, low knife wear, plus the benefits of good resistance to bacteria. Despite knowing this, I lived with lesser boards until we moved and said lesser boards broke. I looked around, found the artisan Carolina cut at Boardsmith and ordered. I had no idea how much it would matter or I would have done it years ago. Why did I suffer bad boards for years? is it worth the money? And then some! I don't put it away, it resides on my counter. I use it constantly, and I know that someday, my son will use it, and his child after. It's far more than function, it is aesthetically pleasing and artisan crafted, far more valuable to me than I thought I would find it.
Don't be like me and wait for years. Go buy one now, you know you want to.

Fabulous product

Couldn't be happier, at least so far. Craftsmanship is clear. I have the largest size and it has been a great extension of my cooking area, which is otherwise on the smaller size.

This is an amazing piece of art work and an absolute pleasure to have in my kitchen. It’s become the center piece of my kitchen island.
