This beautiful cherry board is what we call a Frankenboard.
Frankenboard: When making butcher block, the first step is to glue up a large panel. We then cross-cut strips from that panel, turning them on end in sequence and gluing those together to form the final butcher block. We often have extra strips from any given panel. When we have a butcher block formed from strips from more than a single panel, that’s a “Frankenboard.” Nothing wrong with it, it’s just that the look of the grain pattern from one row to the next doesn’t necessarily flow seamlessly. In the case of this board, the strips weren't alternated properly. But it isn't overly noticeable.
Despite the name, there is nothing monstrous about this one! It's a bit of a unicorn because we almost never make Carolina Cut Cherry boards with our left over strips. We almost always create the Butcher size. so if you like this, grab it while you can, because it's rare!
You can add finger grooves, a perimeter groove or engraving to any board.
